i completed the 2nd part of my industry placement with dlm- one of the top creative agencies in australia and luxe studios- a new studio affiliated with dlm. i worked 2 full days (16 hrs) with dlm in their office on liverpool st. and 1 day (8 hrs) at luxe studios.
working at dlm was extremely good as i got an insight into the fashion/ advertising/ magazine industry in sydney. i was able to meet some of the photographers dlm have on their books including steven chee (one of my favorite photographers), linda rosewall and duncan robinson. i had a good chat to all these photographers and grilled them on the industry and their path to get where they are now. i was given the opportunity to assist some of the photographers should i move to sydney, which is an awesome option. i also met rae morris who is considered the top makeup artist in australia, she is an amazing person and really good at what she does. i was able to hook my sister up as her assistant when she came to canberra last week to promote her book and i got to have another good chat with her.

i went through all the photographers, makeup artists, hairstylist and stylists portfolios so i could get a good indication on what the standards are in terms of presentation, quality and spreads.
working at luxe was basically they same as dlm, i didn't assist on any of the shoots, although i was on set for a few different things. it was more or less networking with as many people as i could, asking questions and getting as much out of it as possible.
the people i was working with at dlm and luxe were really cool, i got on very well with them. they invited me to an official absolut fashion week party the following week (last week) which i went to and had heaps of fun and of-course networked a bit more. i was discussing the possibility of moving to sydney with them and they said that they would give me some assisting work and even work in the office (although i wouldn't be getting photography experience i would make awesome connections).
i had an incredible time working at the agency and it has shown me that i want to be in the fashion and advertising industry.

Sounds awesome Ash! I love Steven Chee, he's the one that inspired my blue monday series from last semester.
